First Century, 1 year and 4000 Miles, and My First Few Races Coming Up

So I’m becoming very bad about this...

On March 28th I completed my first century and it sucked.  I always thought 6 hours on the bike would be fun but man it SUCKED.  Maybe it’s because I suck and had to spend the 5:40 minutes it took sucking wheels because the group was a lot faster than me and I didn’t want to get dropped.  Maybe it sucked because the wind blows... and it blows a lot.  20mph winds the entire day and like usual, more head winds than tail winds.  Regardless, I did it, I met my goal of sub-6 hour and it’s over and I’m never doing it again.

    Until next year

Anyway, enough about that miserable Century ride, I am now a licensed bicycle racer.  The fact I’ve never raced doesn’t matter, I am licensed so I am a bicycle racer. Right? Right!  It’s a tough selection process but I hear that if you paypal USACyling $60 they’ll give you one too, just don’t tell anyone.

    Cat5 bitches!
Tomorrow will be my first race too, so the license came in right on time. I’ll be doing the Rosewood series that the Miami Masters promote, It’s a .9 mile loop in Miami Lakes, my class goes for 45 minutes + 3 laps.  I plan to hang in there for at least 15 minutes. I know, I know, I shoot for the stars.  But in all seriousness cat5 is just about gaining experience, I’m sure it’s awesome to win a race or place high but what is important is to learn how to race safely and efficiently.  Cat4 is when it starts getting more important and Cat3 seems like the ultimate class for the normal human rider.

Apart from Rosewood tomorrow, I also signed up for the Sunrise Classic.  It’s a 2 day 3 race event.  Saturday I’ll be doing a Circuit race around the Bank Atlantic Center followed by a (I think 5k) Time Trial then onto Sunday for a Crit in Las Olas which seems like a bad ass place to have a Crit. This was supposed to be my first race, but for some reason I got inspired to try the Rosewood so we’ll see what happens.

In other news, I hit 4000 miles since I started riding at the very end of the Century ride.  Not bad, 4000 miles in less than a year but I’m sure I’ll destroy that figure this year.

Oh and a few days before the century I had a stupid little crash which managed to rash my hip and break my helmet.  So I’m using a helmet I borrowed from Alex which is humongous and not very aero, so if I lose I’m blaming it on that.  I hope Bell gets me my replacement soon :/

This is the data from the century http://connect.garmin.com/activity/28292586

and this is a Johnny Rockets Ride I’m pretty proud of http://connect.garmin.com/activity/27147649
